A gold melting kit includes a furnace (electrical or gas), high-density graphite crucibles, and tongs. Safety equipment is paramount: heat-resistant gloves and a leather apron.
Ingot Molds: Molds are necessary to cast the molten metal into bars (ingots). They must be preheated to avoid thermal shock which could cause dangerous splattering.
Fluxes: Borax and sodium carbonate are used to purify the metal and ensure a fluid melt. They trap oxides and impurities in a surface slag.
