Platinum price per gram in Switzerland

Real-time platinum quotation and factors influencing its industrial price.

Platinum (symbol XPT) is the densest and rarest industrial and jewelery precious metal. Its global quotation is on NYMEX (New York) and LBMA (London), in USD per troy ounce. To convert to CHF per gram: Price/g (CHF) = (USD/ozt Price ÷ 31.1035) × USD/CHF Rate.

Price Context: Historically, platinum trades above gold. Since 2014, this premium has inverted — platinum now quotes 40 to 50% cheaper than gold in 2025. This inversion is structural, linked to the reduction in automotive demand (diesel → electric) and South African supply surpluses.

Units of Measure: Like all precious metals, platinum is quoted in troy ounces. 1 troy ounce = 31.1035g. A 50g platinum plate corresponds to about 1.608 troy ounces.

The Platinum Market: 70% of world production comes from South Africa (Bushveld Complex). Geographical concentration is a major risk factor — social unrest, power cuts (load shedding), or mine strikes directly impact world supply.

Perspectives: The transition to hydrogen (PEMFC fuel cells using platinum as a catalyst) could structurally modify demand in the medium term. 1 hydrogen vehicle contains 30–60g of platinum vs 2–5g for a diesel catalyst.
