Colloidal silver: uses and controversies
What science and Swiss regulation say about colloidal silver.
Colloidal silver is a suspension of silver nanoparticles in water, marketed for its alleged antimicrobial properties. Its market is growing despite the lack of solid clinical evidence.
What science says: Silver has demonstrated antibacterial properties for external use (bandages, catheters). But ingestion of colloidal silver has no proven benefit and can cause argyria (irreversible blue-grey skin discoloration).
Swiss regulation: Swissmedic does not recognize colloidal silver as a medication. Its sale as a 'dietary supplement' is tolerated but regulated. Therapeutic claims are prohibited on packaging.
Impact on the silver market: Demand for colloidal silver is marginal (<0.1% of global silver demand). It has no measurable impact on prices.
Our position: GoldPrice24 is a precious metals pricing platform. We neither recommend nor advise against the use of colloidal silver. Consult your doctor for any health use.
