Palladium in Switzerland: price, uses and investment
Complete guide to the palladium market: pricing, industrial applications and investment opportunities.
Palladium (XPD) is the most volatile of the four precious metals. Its price has ranged from 500 to 3,000 USD/oz over 10 years — offering spectacular opportunities but also considerable risks.
Demand: 85% of palladium is used in gasoline vehicle catalysts (vs platinum for diesel). The shift to electric structurally reduces this demand — but stricter emission standards support it short-term.
Supply: 80% of production comes from Russia and South Africa. Sanctions on Russia and infrastructure problems in South Africa create recurring supply risks.
Investing in physical palladium: Palladium bars are rare in Switzerland and subject to 8.1% VAT. ETFs (ZKB Palladium ETF) are more accessible. The market is illiquid — bid/ask spreads are wide (3-5%).
Our view: Palladium is a speculative asset, not a store of value. Maximum recommended position: 2-5% of your metal allocation.
